Ex-Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly keen on the Tottenham Hotspur job. According to The Sun, Allegri is waiting for the Tottenham job to become available as tensions grow between the club and Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham have started the season poorly. Their disappointing league form has been made worse by a draw against Olympiacos and an EFL Cup loss against League Two side Colchester United.
There are whispers that Pochettino could walk away from Tottenham while others suggest he might be sacked in the near future. In either case, Allegri is poised and ready to take over if the job becomes available.
Allegri is vastly experienced in Italy, having won one Serie A title with AC Milan and five with Juventus. He walked away from the Turin club after 271 games and five league titles in five years. However, the Champions League was the one that got away; Allegri lost twice in the final.
The Italian boss is now ready for a Premier League challenge. Tottenham could be an interesting project for Allegri if Pochettino parts ways after five years.
Spurs are obviously going through a bad period and there must be something wrong behind the scenes. But would sacking Pochettino and appointing Allegri change this?
Pochettino has set up an excellent platform at Tottenham but all that hard work is being undone by unrest in the camp. Perhaps Allegri would offer a new direction and a new era of success. His record in Italy is impressive so perhaps he should be given a chance.
