Marquinhos was working away from the rest of the Arsenal squad in training on Monday, with Football London reporting that the youngster is now receiving treatment for a knock to his knee.

The Gunners’ preparations ahead of the new campaign have not entirely gone to plan with a few players picking up injuries. Mikel Arteta recently suggested that the likes of Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe had minor knocks.

Football London reports that Fabio Vieira is also working his way back from a foot injury. But there was also some disappointing news concerning another summer signing at the start of this week.

Marquinhos has a knock to his knee. And with that, Football London reports that he was not involved with the main group during training on Monday.

It is noted that Arsenal are being overly cautious with each knock. So it seems that the problem for the 19-year-old is not too serious.

Injury news a big blow for Marquinhos with starlet likely setting sights on role at Arsenal this season

Of course, it is disappointing for Marquinhos. He will have his sights set on ensuring that he is in and around Arteta’s plans this season.

However, the Gunners have real depth in attacking areas. And Arteta has hinted that they could consider a loan move for the teenager.

So he was always likely to really need to make his mark in pre-season.

There is still time. Arsenal have three more games before the new Premier League season starts. And obviously, the season will be underway for a few weeks before the transfer window closes.

But it is fair to say that it is a setback Marquinhos could have done without.
