Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa pulled the plug on potential deals to sign both Noa Lang and Matheus Cunha this summer, the Athletic have reported.
Double deal declined
Victor Orta was said to be a big fan of Lang, who had an impressive season at Club Brugge last term, but Bielsa was less certain of his quality and as a result Leeds decided against signing him.
It was also a similar story with Cunha – who the Whites were linked with, but never followed through their interest for.
Cunha has now moved to Atletico Madrid for £25 million, and at that price, Bielsa apparently had some reluctance to green-lighting a deal.
Bielsa has a great say over transfers at Leeds, with the club not bringing in any player without his go-ahead.
It is a policy which has obviously served them well, but Bielsa’s stringent demands do make doing business difficult.
A quiet summer
Leeds have to be very particular about the players which they go after.
This summer has, therefore, been a bit of a struggle for the Whites.

Leeds have been linked with a host of names, but only Junior Firpo has arrived to immediately improve their starting line-up from last term.
Both Lang and Cunha could have been exciting options, given the impact which they made across Europe, and Leeds fans may now be watching their progress from afar, hoping that Bielsa’s judgement is proven correct over the coming years.
Leeds have started the campaign by collecting just one point from their first two games, and are yet to really click into top gear.
