According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (13/10; page 63), Marcel Brands has decided to send his Everton scouts to Brazil as they look at potential January targets.
The winter window is already look set to be particularly important for the Toffees. The club currently find themselves in the relegation zone in the Premier League, and their summer signings are yet to make a significant impact.
It would be a big surprise if Everton remained in their current predicament when January arrives. But the fans will still be hoping to see the club prove a point with their recruitment.
And it appears that there has been a big clue regarding the players that Brands will be looking at. The Sun on Sunday (13/10; page 63) reports that the Dutchman has identified Brazil as an area he wants his scouts to study.
The report suggests that Brands feels that the South American country may provide the best market for talent and value.
Interestingly, this report comes as Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb has claimed that Brands is now looking to work with Shakhtar Donetsk scout Jose Boto.
Shakhtar have used the Brazilian market superbly for a number of years. Boto has only been with the Ukrainian side since 2018, but he has continued to oversee the arrivals of a number of Brazilian players.
So perhaps it may not be a huge leap to wonder whether Boto may be set for an important role within Brands’s reported plan to look at more players from Brazil.
