According to reports from Spain today, Newcastle United have failed in their bid to try and sign Barcelona goalkeeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Sport make the claim, suggesting Newcastle had proposed an offer to the German stopper, only for him to flatly reject any notion of a deal.
Worryingly for Newcastle and PIF, Sport claims that Ter Stegen rejected the deal because of a concern of a lack of structure at St James’ Park. After PIF took over, the club have set Eddie Howe on as manager. However, there remains holes in the behind the scenes team at St James’.

Reports a few weeks back had claimed Newcastle were ready to smash their transfer record and bring Ter Stegen in. The fee then was being touted at around £47, which would eclipse the money Newcastle shelled out on Joelinton.
However, it all seems trivial now, if Sport’s report on Ter Stegen today is on the money. Newcastle, for now anyway, seem to have an uphill battle on their hands to attract the very best players.
TBR’s View: Newcastle and Ter Stegen always a tough ask
We will probably see this a lot with Newcastle in January and the summer months. Top players will be linked, possibly approached, and then turn down moves to the northeast.
It’s just how football is sometimes. At the moment, Newcastle have all the riches but need to show they mean business. That starts with being a Premier League club, something that’s not even certain at the moment.
Like Manchester City did, they’ll have to progressively build. New signings will come, but they might not be marquee calibre just yet.
So, while Ter Stegen saying no is gutting for the Toon Army, it’s hardly surprising either. This will happen again, but along the way, Newcastle will also get some players through the door.
