West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini could block Edimilson Fernandes from joining Fiorentina this summer.
football.london understand the Chilean tactican is keen to welcome the Switzerland international back to the club after a season in the Italian top flight.
Fernandes – who is paid £30,000-a-week by the Hammers (Spotrac) – has been a mainstay in Fiorentina’s side this term and has impressed with some all-action displays in midfield.
The player’s agent Franco Moretti has hinted that his client would be open to turning his temporary stint into a permanent move.
He told Viola News (quoted by football.london): “The boy is very happy with his experience in Fiorentina, he is very happy to be in Italy.
“At the end of the season we will meet with the owners and the coach and we will talk about the boy’s future, trying to take the best decision for everyone.”
Fernandes’ potential permanent transfer has been set at £8 million, but Pellegrini wants him to fight for his place at the London Stadium.
Fernandes’ dynamism was been missed by West Ham in 2018/19.
The towering midfielder is good at getting about the pitch and being industrious in the centre of the park.
Captain Mark Noble did a fine job for the Hammers in Pellegrini’s first season but may not be able to play as many games next term.
Given the wretched injury record of Jack Wilshere, keeping Fernandes could well be a smart move.
