Manchester United have joined the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.
The Denmark international has made his way onto Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s summer transfer list according to The Mirror, who claim Red Devils officials would be ‘willing to treble’ the players wages to £240,000-a-week.
Eriksen is highly coveted given that his contract runs out in the summer of 2020.
Talks have continually been held between his representatives and the club, but there has been no sign of a breakthrough in terms of a possible extension.
Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan are all lurking, and Spurs could be forced into a sale this summer with it being the last chance to get decent money for a top player.
Tottenham should be trying to avoid selling to Manchester United as they are a direct rival in the Premier League.
They may have the finances, but hopefully for them Eriksen would prefer to experience a different footballing culture.
They may have to brace themselves for an approach, with Juan Mata potentially leaving Old Trafford this summer – The Manchester Evening News have reported the player is ‘considering his options’.
In an ideal world, Tottenham – if there is no hope of keeping the playmaker – should sell to Real who are desperate for new players this summer after a dismal season. The Mirror state that Eriksen was in fact a boyhood fan of los Blancos.
Hopefully for Spurs, their lure would be greater than United’s willingness to throw money at the player.
