Report: Manchester United target striker Salomon Rondon

Manchester United have reportedly turned their attention to centre-forward Salomon Rondon at Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

According to the Times, the Red Devils have missed out on a move for AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek and he is set to complete a £23million switch to Hertha Berlin.

It is understood that Rondon is now viewed as an alternative in this January transfer window.

The report explains that the 30-year-old may be available on loan due to the fact the Chinese Super League has cancelled the start date for their new season because of the escalation of the coronavirus epidemic, with no new date announced yet.

Rondon moved to China last summer, but previously spent four years in England during spells with West Brom and Newcastle.

The Venezuela international left the Premier League with 35 goals in 140 top-flight appearances.

He is a South American striker with a serious physical presence that makes him great in the air, but he’s never felt the pressure of playing for an elite club.

TBR’s View:

Rondon was effective at times in English football and does suit the style, but there is no way he should be the man United try to sign in January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could do with some more reinforcements in his squad at Old Trafford and the arrival of an experienced forward makes sense.

But surely United can attract a more high-profile player before the January window shuts on Friday and can’t settle for mediocrity if they want to break into the top four of the Premier League.
