Report: Manchester United now stepping up their attempts to sign ‘spectacular’ player who Jurgen Klopp wants at Liverpool

Portuguese outlet O Jogo claims Manchester United are now stepping up their attempts to sign Enzo Fernandez – a player who Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants at Liverpool

Erik ten Hag has seemingly missed out on one of his targets to Liverpool ahead of the January window. PSV announced just last night they have agreed a deal to sell Cody Gakpo to Klopp’s side.

It seems that United are eager to steal a march on Liverpool for Benfica star Fernandez though, but Klopp is also eyeing a move for the 21-year-old.

Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reports that Liverpool have had an £88 million bid for Fernandez rejected by Benfica over the past week. Fabrizio Romano has since claimed that the Portuguese giants want ‘crazy’ money to let the midfielder leave

But United are seemingly pressing ahead with their attempts to land Fernandez ahead of the January window.

United stepping up attempts to sign Fernandez

O Jogo reports – via SportWitness – that Ten Hag’s men have made new contact with Benfica in order to convince them to allow Fernandez to leave in January.

The Red Devils are aiming to raise their bid for the Argentinian star following reports of an £88 million bid being rejected.

The outlet does state that Liverpool are also making fresh contact with the Portuguese outfit over Fernandez, alongside United. And it’s becoming ‘increasingly possible’ that he could move as soon as next month.

Liverpool will be eager to beat their rivals to another signing after the Gakpo news broke last night. But they may face a tough task in funding a deal for Fernandez next month.

Benfica look set to hold out for Fernandez’s full £106.2 million release clause to be met and you can’t blame them after his performances this season.

The ‘spectacular’ youngster played a key role in Argentina lifting the World Cup and has been equally as impressive in the Champions League this season.

With Klopp’s men also in the race to sign Bellingham next summer, it remains to be seen whether they can fund deals for both players.
