Report: Manchester United join Tottenham in race to sign 'incredible' soon-to-be free agent

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Malcolm Ebiowei in recent weeks.

The Sun reported earlier this month that Spurs are weighing up a summer move for the Derby ace.

However, it looks as though Tottenham will be up against numerous clubs in the race for Ebiowei.

The Daily Mail claims Manchester United and Newcastle United have joined Spurs in pursuit of the 18-year-old.

In addition, the likes of Crystal Palace, Leeds and Fulham are apparently eyeing Ebiowei too.

Ebiowei came through the ranks at Arsenal, but left in 2019.

All Nigeria Soccer claimed at the time that the Gunners let him go.

Ebiowei subsequently joined Rangers in February 2020, where he stayed until July 2021.

He then joined Derby and quickly became a first-team squad member.

Ebiowei spent the first half of the campaign in the Rams’ youth setup.

He scored seven times in seven Under-18 appearances and also featured for their U23s.

Ebiowei went on to make 16 Championship appearances for the Rams, registering one goal and two assists.

Can Manchester United or Tottenham land “absolute talent” this summer?

Playing as a right-sided winger under Wayne Rooney, Ebiowei has shown huge potential.

He has earned rave reviews for his displays this season.

Rooney has hailed Ebiowei’s “incredible” attitude, adding that he was “excellent” in a recent display against Coventry.

And EFL analyst George Elek has described the youngster as an “absolute talent”.

However, he couldn’t prevent a struggling Derby from suffering relegation to League One.

Ebiowei’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he’s all-but set to leave.

As the player is only 18, if a team does sign him, they will have to pay a compensation fee due to his age.

Derby, Rangers and Arsenal would receive a portion of the fee, as he developed in their academies.
