Manchester United have joined the race for James Maddison. According to The Mirror, Manchester United are planning to launch a big-money January bid for Leicester City star Maddison.

The England U21 international, who will be hoping for a senior call-up next week, has been perennially linked with Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have wanted Maddison since his days at Coventry City and they were linked with him again when he was at Norwich City.

Now he is thriving in the Premier League with Leicester and it is no surprise to see a race for his signature. In the summer, Tottenham reportedly wanted Maddison but Leicester demanded £60m in a bid to fend them off (Mirror).

Today’s report indicates that the 22-year-old’s price has soared by a further £20m. Leicester want Man United to match the price they paid for Harry Maguire if they are to lure Maddison to Old Trafford too.

TBR’s view

Maddison is a superb player and Leicester will do well to keep him beyond next summer. But Brendan Rodgers’ men are right to demand a hefty price for Maddison, who is so vital for Leicester’s hopes of Europe.

The midfield playmaker has two assists in three games this season, taking his total tally to seven goals and nine assists in 41 Leicester games. He has been a consistent performer for Leicester and deserves a major move in the near future.
