Report: Manchester United have enquired about four Real Madrid players
According to reports from AS, Manchester United have enquired about the availability of four Real Madrid players in recent weeks.
The Old Trafford club have allegedly shown their interest in each of Los Blancos’ ‘BBC’ -Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo – as well as French defender, and Chelsea target, Raphael Varane. However, the Spanish giants have squashed the Premier League outfit’s approach on each occasion.
Both Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo – who scored 61 and assisted 25 league goals between them this season – have buy-out clauses of €1,000,000,000, while Benzema, who has only recently extended his contract to 2019, is now expected to stay, despite earlier reports linking him with a move to pastures new.
For 22-year-old Raphael Varane, the main priority is first-team football. After an indifferent season with Madrid, in which he made 21 starts, it is expected that he would be willing to listen to offers from elsewhere.
In his maiden summer at the club, Louis van Gaal was able to benefit from Real Madrid’s no-nonsense transfer policy. Despite playing an instrumental role in the Galacticos’ Champions League success, before reaching the final of the World Cup with Argentina, Angel Di Maria found himself almost forced into an exit.
The 27-year-old joined Manchester United for a fee of £57.5 million, and despite excelling initially, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.
Nonetheless, this has clearly not deterred Van Gaal, as the Dutchman looks to the Bernabeu for a successive summer window. Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo and Varane would all be welcomed with open arms by the Old Trafford faithful, and despite a string of rejections, the fans will be happy to see the ambition the club is showing.
