Report: Manchester United eye move for Southampton star Danny Ings

Manchester United are looking into the possibility of signing Southampton striker Danny Ings during the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

The 28-year-old talisman will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and talks haven’t advanced with regards to an extension.

As a result, the Saints could be tempted into a sale if the price is right and United are keen to add some more firepower to their ranks.

Edinson Cavani recently penned a new deal but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would probably welcome another player into his attacking arsenal.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Ings has scored 13 times in all competitions during 2020/21 and fired 25 during the season previous.

The striker has scored once in three appearances for England and his work rate is one of his key attributes.

Ings earns £75,000-a-week at St Mary’s and United would be more than accommodating with regards to his salary.

At this stage it’s not known what Southampton value their main man at but with a year left on his contract, it’s unlikely to be excessive.

United will finish second in the Premier League this season and next season they’ll want to close the gap further on Manchester City.

Solskjaer has done plenty of good work during the past 12 months but the transfer window will need to be spot on when it reopens in the summer.

TBR View: Ings would be a smart if unspectacular United signing

A club like Manchester United should always fancy themselves to snare the very best players in world football.

Ings absolutely isn’t at the elite level and although he’s a proven goalscorer, some fans might be underwhelmed by his arrival.

During the past few seasons, the striker has proved himself capable at Premier League level and he could thrive around better players at Old Trafford.

Southampton could find themselves in big trouble if they allow Ings to leave and they must fight tooth and nail to keep the goalscorer.
