Aston Villa could be set for a fight to keep hold of their star defender, Tyrone Mings, with Manchester United said to be interested.
According to ESPN, Mings is on a shortlist of defenders being comprised by United, as they look to add a permanent and more suitable partner to play alongside Harry Maguire.
Mings has been in sensational form this season for Villa. The England man has helped the club into the top half, well clear of any of the relegation trouble Villa faced last year.
The former Ipswich man signed for Villa for around £26m (Guardian) back in the summer of 2019. Eyebrows were raised at the time about the fee spent, but Mings has more than proven his worth since.
However, United’s interest in Mings could be a concern. The Red Devils have shown before they’re willing to spend big if they really want someone, as they did with Maguire. Raphael Varane, and Jules Kounde are also said to be on the list with Mings, per ESPN.
TBR View: Villa might be powerless here, but can demand a big fee from United
If Mings gets wind of the United interest and makes it known he fancies the move, then Villa will be a bit powerless to stop that.
However, they do hold the upper hand in terms of demanding a big sum of money. They paid over £20m for Mings as it is, so they’d surely be looking at double, if not more, for their man.
Mings has been excellent and looks a certainty for the Euros with England. Villa fans, then, will be hoping Maguire isn’t in Mings’ ear too much when the time comes.
