Two Tottenham Hotspur players have emerged on Manchester United’s January wishlist. According to The Daily Star, Man United will try to sign Eric Dier and Lucas Moura from their Premier League rivals this winter.
Both Dier and Lucas have failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Mauricio Pochettino. Consequently, the pair are both considering their respective futures in North London.
Lucas is said in this report to be “unsettled”. The Brazilian, who recently signed a long-term extension at Spurs, was the hero in last season’s Champions League semi-final. But his hat-trick at Ajax was not enough to convince Pochettino to start him in the final.
The 27-year-old has scored 18 goals since joining Tottenham in January 2018. But he was snubbed for the North London derby and he has played less than 10 minutes in Spurs’ two Premier League games since then.

Dier, on the other hand, has slipped down the pecking order. The versatile midfielder – who can also operate in defence – is yet to come off the bench this season. He has played over 200 times for Tottenham since joining from Sporting CP but Pochettino has dropped him this season.
With both players struggling for minutes in the Spurs line-up, Man United are hoping to pounce. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants these Tottenham players to boost his club’s chances of Champions League qualification – possibly at Spurs’ expense.
TBR’s view
Dier and Lucas are not in Pochettino’s plans for starting spots at the minute but both will be considered important squad players. Dier, 25, provides cover in holding midfield and could be reconsidered with Tottenham struggling.
Lucas is a very exciting attacking midfielder who Spurs fans will want to see more of. While he is being unfairly treated at times, his aim will be to break into the Spurs side. Leaving midway through a season to join Premier League rivals is not the best solution.
