According to ESPN, Manchester United have already enquired about the availability of Newcastle target, Mohammed Salisu.

Salisu has emerged as one of the stars of the show for Real Valladolid this season at centre back.

The 21-year-old has cemented himself with the La Liga side and is now a regular started for Sergio Gonzalez’s team.

However, his form has attracted a host of interest from around Europe. Indeed, El Desmarque reported earlier in the week that Newcastle United were keen on landing Salisu.

The Magpies are expected to have quite the war chest to play with this summer and could well move for Salisu as soon as their takeover is complete.

But latest reports seem to indicate Manchester United are now chucking their name into the hat. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to land some more of Europe’s top talent and sees Salisu as the ideal player to work under both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

The Ghanaian has a small release clause of less than £11m, according to the Sun.

While the days of an over-inflated transfer market could well come to an end thanks to the current global situation, fees will still be somewhat bigger than Salisu’s release clause.

That’s why it’s so hard for both United and Newcastle to not be tempted by a move. The young defender looks to have all the attributes of a world-class defender in the making.

For Newcastle, it would be a brilliant initial signing under the new owners. Furthermore, if they can beat Man United to the signing early on, then it would send a big message to the rest of the league.
