Manchester United have considered a bid for Norwich City man Teemu Pukki as they attempt to land a striker before tonight’s deadline.

The Independent claims that the Red Devils made an enquiry for the Finland international but were told by the Canaries that he wasn’t available under any circumstances.

Norwich are rock-bottom of the Premier League and losing him this month would have been unthinkable.

United’s need for a striker has intensified since they discovered that Marcus Rashford would miss three months with a stress fracture in his back.

The Independent also claims that United have made attempts to land Josh King from Bournemouth, Edinson Cavani from PSG, Danny Ings from Southampton and Dries Mertens from Napoli.

With the clock ticking it remains to be seen whether or not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be land a frontman before the deadline.

Pukki has proved a decent addition for Norwich. In 71 appearances he has netted 72 goals and claimed 23 assists.

He took to life in the Premier League with aplomb at the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Pukki fired six goals in his first five games and has 11 for the campaign with 24 league games played.

TBR View – Pukki would have been a panic buy for Manchester United

Although the player with 75 caps for his country has taken well to life in the Premier League, is it realistic to see him in a Manchester United shirt?

You’d have to say not and at 29-years-old, United should really be looking elsewhere for a frontman.

Whoever United do sign it seems likely they will only be a short-term fix to spearhead the club’s attack.

Once Rashford is fit he will almost certainly be back in the team and that will leave the new man playing second fiddle.

Pukki is currently playing football and scoring goals and moving to Manchester United wouldn’t be a good long-term career move.
