Sky Sports Transfer Centre have claimed on their live blog (Friday, 09:04) that Manchester United are closing in on Swansea City winger Daniel James, after almost joining Leeds United in January.
James, 21, has been in super form for Welsh side Swansea. He has had a hand in 15 goals in the Championship, scoring five goals and laying on 10 assists for his teammates.
The Wales international also scored on his first start for his national side, slamming home a crucial winner in a UEFA Nations League 1-0 victory over Slovakia. It has seen interest in James sky rocket.
Leeds came within an inch of landing James for £8.5million in January, only for Swansea to ignore calls in the final hours of deadline day. Marcelo Bielsa has since stated Leeds would have finished in the top two of the Championship, had they signed James.
Newcastle and other Premier League sides have been linked with the Swansea ace, but it seems Manchester United are going to lure him away from the Liberty Stadium for a whopping £15million.
James would have been an excellent signing and his rise in form since the turn of the year shows that Leeds could have indeed gained promotion via the two automatic slots.
In his last eight games, he has scored twice against Brentford and Stoke City as well as creating four assists. His electrifying speed and eye for goal has seen him become one of the Championship’s most in-form players.
Leeds will be gutted not to have signed James, as he looks to go and make a name for himself at bitter rivals Manchester United.
