TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Manchester City are interested in signing Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens come the summer, but face plenty of competition for the Germany international as he continues to shine for the Serie A side.
Gosens, a four-time Germany star, has had a hand in 15 goals in 30 league and cup appearances for Atalanta despite naturally being a left-back. He has been used more regularly as a left winger this season, scoring nine of those 15 goal involvements.
Atalanta are renowned for their attacking style of play, the kind of tactics that have seen Atalanta climb into the Champions League. Right now, the Serie A side sit in a lofty fourth place in the top tier of Italian football. They are 10 off the top.
But City are not alone in their pursuit of Gosens. Indeed, the report claims Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan and Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo are interested in raiding Atalanta for Gosens – who has a valuation of £26million.
TBR’s view – Gosens addition makes sense
Sellign Angelino will have come as a blow, especially after seeing him perform well for Leipzig against Liverpool recently. Pep Guardiola will be looking for a replacement for Angelino, and the inconsistent Benjamin Mendy.
Oleksandr Zinchenko has been first choice of late, but he is hardly deemed the long-term answer for City. They need a left-back, one that also offers quality in numerous positions and Gosens is perfect – as a left-back, winger or wing-back.
At less than £30million, he is a no brainer.
