Manchester City transfer: Citizens will reportedly offer four players in swap for £107m forward
Manchester City are preparing to offer Barcelona up to four players in an attempt to sign forward Antoine Griezmann, according to Fussball Transfers.
The French player is available for transfer this summer. Barca are keen to get his wages off their books and hope to get rid of him.
City boss Pep Guardiola is thought to be a fan and wants him at the Etihad Stadium for the 2021/22 campaign.
In an attempt to bring him to the Premier League, City are plotting to throw some players into any possible deal.
Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte are the quartet who will be offered to the Catalan giants.
Griezmann has spent two seasons with Barca. He has found the net 35 times and claimed 17 assists during 99 appearances for the club.
Now, he could be on the move and City are one of several Premier League clubs thought to be considering a move for the player.
Atletico Madrid are also thought to be keen on the 30-year-old. His affection for Los Rojiblancos could see his former club hold the aces.
City romped to the title last season. They have lost Sergio Aguero to Barca and some more firepower is required.
It’s perhaps interesting looking at the players Guardiola is willing to offer in the deal that three are forwards.
As a result, it would appear that the Spanish boss is keen to reshuffle his attack ahead of the new campaign.
Griezmann to City: Player could thrive in the Premier League – but deal doesn’t make sense
From a Manchester City perspective, this deal doesn’t make a great deal of sense. Guardiola has done great things with younger players and as a result, Griezmann doesn’t fit that billing.
The France World Cup winner earns close to £600,000-a-week at Barcelona and City aren’t going to pay him anything like that.
Griezmann was signed for £107 million two years ago and if they are to sell him they might have to take a significant hit.
The versatile forward is capable of doing well in the Premier League for certain. He works hard and crucially creates goals and scores them.
Didier Deschamps claimed that he could be considered one of France’s ‘greatest ever’. Despite that, he just doesn’t look like the exciting stellar addition that City crave as they look to star life after Aguero.
