Report: £40m Manchester City star wanted by Premier League top four rival; frustrated at Etihad Stadium
Ake has endured a tough first campaign with the Cityzens. He only made nine starts in the Premier League following his £40 million switch.
The Sun reports that he has grown frustrated over the lack of game-time. And it appears that City’s closest rivals may sense an opportunity.
According to the report, Manchester United have included the 26-year-old on their transfer wishlist as they look to sign a new centre-back this summer.
The report suggests that Raphael Varane and Pau Torres are also wanted.
Interestingly, the chances of Ake leaving could depend on Aymeric Laporte. The Sun hints that his teammate leaving could see Ake stay.
Nevertheless, it is incredibly difficult to imagine Ake ending up at Old Trafford.
Too soon for Manchester City to let Ake go as Manchester United eye transfer
City would have likely been aware that Ake would require some time to find his feet. It is easy to forget that he was part of the Bournemouth side that was relegated last season.
Of course, few could have foreseen how impressive Ruben Dias and John Stones would be together this past year.
City may feel that a big offer for Ake would be difficult to turn down. He has been linked with moves elsewhere. But surely it would be a huge surprise if he ended the transfer window as a Manchester United player.
Pep Guardiola clearly knows how good Ake could be. It is less than a year since they parted with £40 million to bring him in.
Letting him join their closest rival would be a huge gamble. So surely there is little chance of such a move taking place.
