Report: Manchester City rivalling Tottenham for Chelsea star

Manchester City are one of the clubs rivalling Tottenham for the signature of Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, according to a report from Calciomercato.

Rudiger’s future is set to be a talking point over the next few months. As noted by Transfermarkt, the Germany international is out of contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

He has been a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans this term. Rudiger has started eight of their nine Premier League games. Meanwhile, he has also been an ever-present for the Blues in the Champions League.

But it would appear that the European champions face a battle to keep the 28-year-old.

It is a stunning group of sides wanting to sign Rudiger. And it will surely open the door for the former Roma man to demand some eye-watering terms at his next club.

He currently earns £100,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. And given that he may not command a transfer fee, the door is open for Rudiger to demand an incredibly lucrative contract.

Certainly, the amount of interest does Chelsea few favours as they look to keep him.

Tottenham facing uphill battle with Manchester City in race for Rudiger

Rudiger has silenced a lot of his doubters in more recent times. He had only made 19 Premier League starts in each of the last two seasons.

His return to form has probably done Spurs no favours. With clubs such as Manchester City now in the running, Tottenham face an incredibly difficult battle to win the race to sign Rudiger.
