It’s a credit to Newcastle’s ambition this summer that they’ve not only been linked to the same player as Premier League champions Man City, but identified the 24-year-old as a potential target first.
While the deal between Lodi and Howe’s side hasn’t happened yet, Newcastle are still keen to add to their ranks before the transfer window closes.

The Stuttgart defender is also 24 and is one of the most effective attacking full-backs in Europe.
He’s delivered 19 assists in his 66 Bundesliga appearances so far, and earned six caps for Croatia as a result.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will go back in for Lodi, but they may struggle to convince the Brazilian to join them over the English champions.
