Report: Manchester City monitoring Southampton star Danny Ings

Manchester City have Southampton talisman Danny Ings on their radar heading into the summer, according to a report from The Athletic. 

Pep Guardiola’s focus could well be on his striker options at the end of the season. The Athletic notes that there are potential question marks hanging over the futures of both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

It appears that Romelu Lukaku is one possible target two years after his £74 million move to Inter Milan. But The Athletic also claims that Ings could be considered if the Cityzens look to sign two strikers.

Ings has seven goals in the Premier League this season. But he really reestablished himself as one of the best in the country last term.

The 28-year-old scored 22 times in the top flight. The Athletic notes that he is now into the final 18 months of his contract and the Saints are yet to make a breakthrough in agreeing a new one.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men may be left with a tough decision to make in the summer.

If Ings – who earns £75,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has not penned fresh terms, perhaps they may be tempted to consider some of the offers that come in.

They may be wary of losing him on a free transfer in 2022. And if City come calling, Southampton’s task of getting Ings to commit his future may become even tougher.
