Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is keen on signing Juventus midfielder, Adrien Rabiot, according to reports from Italy.
Tuttosport make the claim. They believe Guardiola is a big fan of Rabiot, who has started to do well for Juventus after a bit of a stop-start time to his career initially in Italy.
Rabiot moved to Juve on a hefty contract from PSG a couple of transfer windows back. He signed a mega-money deal, but has since been linked with moves away, including to Everton in the summer.
City are likely to be looking for a replacement for Fernandinho soon. And given Rabiot’s expertise in defensive midfield, the Frenchman could be an obvious signing for City and Guardiola.
However, the report does also state that Rabiot is unlikely to leave Juventus as things stand. Of course, a big bid could change all that, with Juve needing to sell players to balance the books this summer as well.
Rabiot is highly rated in world football, with Patrick Vieira once stating he thought the midfielder was ‘one of the best’ in his position.
TBR View: Rabiot is a class act but would he replace Rodri?
The big issue with anyone who signs for Man City is if they’re going to be good enough to get into the first XI.
Rabiot probably doesn’t replace Rodri as things stand. But City love having the best players in their squad, and Rabiot is certainly of enough quality to bring something to the ranks.
Juventus will want to keep Rabiot. But his name is an interesting one for City fans to keep an eye on this summer.
