Report: Manchester City in pole position for Premier League attacker

Manchester City are reportedly in pole position for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Man City are considered favourites to sign the 25-year-old ahead of neighbours Man United, who were keen on his signature last year.

It is explained that Man City boss Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the Villa attacker, and the player is “excited” about the possibility of a switch to the Etihad Stadium.

The report states that the English playmaker was valued at £100million last summer, and Man City are best placed to fork out a large transfer fee for a signing at the end of this season.

Grealish, who has taken his game to another level this season, is a talisman at Villa Park.

He’s currently scored seven goals and managed 12 assists in just 23 games across all competitions during this campaign, with some injuries disrupting his game time.

It’s interesting that Man City’s midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne spoke very highly of the Villa attacker earlier in the season.

“I rate him very highly. He’s somebody I mentioned, talking to the teammates at Manchester City in a random conversation,” De Bruyne said back in October, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

If it’s a question of whether Grealish has the quality to sign for one of the elite clubs, the answer is emphatic. Yes.

His game is centred around being a left-winger that is given freedom to drift around the pitch, which is why on paper he looks a perfect fit for Guardiola’s fluid XI.

The attacker is a superb dribbler, passer, leader and attacking threat, plus the fact he’s an England international perhaps adds a few extra million to his transfer valuation.

Man City are stacked with superstars in most positions, and Grelaish isn’t someone they desperately need.

But he would be another X-factor player for them.
