Manchester City are now hopeful that they will be able to secure a move for Jack Grealish, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Premier League leaders have accelerated their plans to sign the Aston Villa star in recent weeks.

Grealish has been outstanding for the Villans once again this season. The 22-year-old has scored six and contributed 10 assists for Dean Smith’s side.

His importance has been highlighted by his recent absence. Villa have won just once without their captain and have struggled to score in that run.

It appears that he is a name on City’s wishlist ahead of this summer. And according to the Daily Mail, they are hopeful that a deal can be agreed.

It is noted that the Villa owners are under no pressure to sell. And that is perhaps significant because another report from The Telegraph has suggested that a move would be complicated.

That report suggests that Villa’s £100 million asking price may prove too great a hurdle for City to clear. So it will be interesting to see how the situation plays out.

TBR View: Grealish’s stance surely crucial

What both reports agree on is the notion that Villa’s owners plan to dig their heels in. It is clear that they would be delighted to still have the 25-year-old in their ranks again next season.

What may prove to be a major factor on whether Manchester City get their man or not is what Grealish makes of the rumours.

He clearly loves Villa and would like nothing more than to realise his ambitions with his boyhood club. But obviously he stands a much better chance of winning silverware regularly at the Etihad Stadium.

So he may be set for some tough conversations over the coming months as he considers where he would like his future to lie.
