Report: Manchester City eye 3-time Champions League winner Guardiola knows well
Manchester City are said to be keen on signing Barcelona and Spain midfielder, Sergio Busquets, setting up a reunion with Pep Guardiola.
Busquets was a key player for Guardiola while he dominated European football at The Camp Nou. And now Spanish outlet, El Nacional, claim that City could be ready to make a move for midfielder this summer.
The World Cup winner has enjoyed immense success as the deep-lying midfielder in the Barcelona midfield. He’s won eight La Liga titles, with three Champions Leagues to boot as well.
He’s been with Barca his entire career. But El Nacional claim that the La Liga side’s woeful financial situation means any of the squad could be moved on this coming summer.
City boss Guardiola is a huge fan of Busquets. He has attempted to replicate the role of the Spaniard by signing Rodri at City. And while Rodri has done the business, El Nacional claim Guardiola would still love Busquets.
TBR’s View: Busquets world class but do Manchester City need him?
It might seem a strange question to ask, but such is the quality and depth in City’s squad you do have to wonder why they’d move for Busquets.
Rodri has been exceptional since he signed. So signing Busquets would be a suggestion that the Spaniard isn’t quite the right man. Although, with Fernandinho well into his latter years, Busquets could take that role.
He’s also won everything in the game, so that sort of mentality and experience can help any team in the world. Still, it would be surprising to see City make their move here.
