Report: Manchester City encouraged in Jack Grealish pursuit, as Aston Villa agree deal for Emi Buendia

ESPN claim that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are feeling encouraged in their pursuit of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish – after Villa confirmed a move for Emi Buendia. The Midlands side announced an agreement had been met for Buendia, though a medical will take place later this week.

Buendia, 24, starred for Norwich last season as the Canaries bounced back into the Premier League at the first attempt. Playing in 39 of Norwich’s 46 Championship games, Buendia scored 15 goals and created 17 more. That has seen Villa choose to pay the big bucks, and lure him to the Midlands.

Villa confirmed on Monday that a deal had been agreed for Buendia, but that a move would not be completed until a medical had been staged. Fabrizio Romano posted on Twitter that a deal is worth £29.25million plus add-ons and that a contract for Buendia will last until the summer of 2026.

Grealish, who had a hand in 18 goals during his 26 league games, remains a £100million target for Manchester City. Now, ESPN say that Villa’s move for Buendia has encouraged City and Guardiola. The City gaffer is also confident Grealish would combine well with Grealish.

Every England One Cap Wonder Since Euro 2004: Where Are They Now?

Does Buendia move to Villa help Manchester City in Grealish pursuit?

Perhaps. Buendia, firstly, is a brilliant signing for Villa – even if expensive. Does he help City get Grealish? Well, Buendia did play much of last season on the left. But surely, Dean Smith will be thinking of playing Buendia – or Grealish – in the number 10 role, alongside each other?

Indeed, signing Buendia is more of a replacement for Ross Barkley – rather than taking over from Grealish. But time will tell.
