Everton could face a fight to keep hold of Lucas Digne, with ESPN reporting that both Manchester City and Chelsea are keen on bringing the Frenchman in over the summer.
The report claims that both Pep Guardiola and Frank Lampard have identified Digne as a potential alternative to Ben Chilwell, who is also of interest to both clubs.
The Frenchman has been one of the standout performers for Everton this season and has excelled since Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager at Goodison Park.
Italian boss Ancelotti has a wealth of options at left-back at the moment. Leighton Baines is still on the books, while the club also signed Niels Nkounkou this week.
However, Digne is the main man. It is, then, unlikely that Everton will entertain any offers. But, as has been demonstrated in the past, every player has their price and City and Chelsea could well choose to make Everton an offer they can’t refuse.
Digne has yet to score this season but has contributed six assists to the cause to compliment his excellent attacking play down the left-hand side.
Everton should stand their ground, even if the money is big – TBR View
Everton are building for the future under Carlo Ancelotti so it seems hard to imagine them selling one of their best players in the current squad.
Digne is a class act and, at times, looks to be one of the best full-backs in the league. Of course, it’s little surprise to see both City and Chelsea circling but the Toffees simply have to keep him.
Selling your best players is not the way to build a successful club. Ancelotti, then, will be hoping his board hold firm if Chilwell does end up staying in Leicester.
