Report: Man Utd line up bid for 21-year-old defensive prospect

Manchester United are lining up a summer move for Everton starlet John Stones as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his defensive options, as per the Daily Mail. Reports suggest that the Red Devils boss has earmarked the England international as a potential cornerstone for his side’s defence.

Having made 23 league appearances this term, Stones impressed for an Everton side that – hampered by an overloaded Europa League schedule – could only manage an 11th place finish. The versatile 21-year-old has proven his ability when operating at both centre-back and right-back, thus is his appeal to Van Gaal and Manchester United.

Stones signed a new five-year contract until 2019 with Everton last August worth around £30,000 a week. Therefore, a significant bid would be required to secure his services – an investment that could be well worth making.

One gets the feeling that Stones has the ability to become a mainstay wherever he plays. He boasts a maturity beyond his years, both on and off the pitch, which would see him become an instant success with Manchester United. Is he the man to emulate the success of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford?
