Report: Man Utd aim for experience by targeting world class La Liga duo

It may comes as little surprise to see Manchester United dominating the back pages, with Louis van Gaal ready to further assert his Old Trafford authority throughout the upcoming transfer window.

This time round, we could see the arrival of two players who both possess experience at the highest level of the game, with Real Madrid centre-forward Karim Benzema and soon-to-be out-of-contract Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, both linked with moves to Old Trafford in the past 24 hours.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward met with Benzema’s agent earlier this week. This comes during a period of speculation linking the Red Devils with a genuine approach for the Madrid talisman – a bid in the region of £40 million is expected.

The Red Devils need added firepower upfront, and the Frenchman, who scored 15 goals and recorded 10 assists – in a side dominated by former Old Trafford fan favourite Cristiano Ronaldo – would provide this in abundance. Ultimately, the 27-year-old could also be used as a sweetener by Real in their attempts to sign David de Gea from United.

Meanwhile, the Manchester club look to have finally acted on rumour linking veteran full-back Dani Alves with a move to Old Trafford, as per the Daily Star. Reports suggest the 32-year-old has agreed terms with the Premier League outfit, and will make the switch upon his contract expiry on the 1st July.

Alves would be an exceptional acquisition for his experience alone. A five-time La Liga and two-time Champions League winner, the Brazilian would also pose a significant influence over his junior compatriot Rafael da Silva. Considering their similar playing styles, he could prove the perfect mentor for the often hot-headed 24-year-old.
