Report: Man United look to win race for Barca forward

According to reports, Manchester United are locked in discussions with Barcelona over a £20m deal for the Chile international.

The Barcelona winger is valued at around £20 million by his club and after an impressive season, in which he scored 21 goals for the Catalans, he is highly coveted across Europe.

Last week Italian giants Juventus had an £18m bid for Sanchez turned down, with Barcelona seeking at least £20m for the 25-year-old, whilst Liverpool have also registered their interest in his servieces.

While the aforementioned clubs are able to offer Champions League football next season, it is United that have moved ahead in the race to land the Chilean’s signature, having made it clear that they are willing to meet the Catalan giant’s asking price.

Louis Van Gaal is aiming to overhaul the Red Devil’s squad and has left vice-chairman Ed Woodward in control of securing his top targets while he fulfils his duties with the Netherlands at the World Cup.

However, if United are able to strike a deal with Barca, Sanchez is unlikely to complete a switch to Old Trafford until after this summer’s tournament. In the meantime, Sanchez will also come up against his potential new manager, with Chile preparing to take on the Netherlands, Australia and holding champions Spain in Group B.

With the likes of Nani and Ashley Young tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer, Sanchez would be an outstanding replacement.
