Lille sporting director Luis Campos is expected to become the new Tottenham Hotspur director of football, according to reports in France.

Canal + is reporting that the Portuguese compatriot of current Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is set to leave Lille and join up with his countryman in North London.

It comes amid recent rumours of this deal potentially happening and ,whilst Jason Burt of The Telegraph has stated on Twitter that Spurs do not yet have any agreement with the Lille supremo, the French press appears to think it is just a matter of time.  The Lille man has reportedly been on Tottenham’s radar since December, as reported by The Guardian.

It would be a massive coup for Spurs, especially for Mourinho, who has a strong bond with Campos.

The duo worked together at Real Madrid and Mourinho is a firm believer in Campos’ abilities in a technical role.

The Lille man himself has spoken about Mourinho’s expertise and their relationship. In October last year, one month before Mourinho took over from Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, Campos told Sky Sports of his belief that Mourinho’s next job in football would be his best yet.

“Mourinho is like a brother to me. I know him very well and for a long time. He’s a wonderful person and the best coach in the world. So, of course, if he called me I would speak.

“In my opinion – football needs someone like Jose. Football needs this special coach with this energy and strong personality. I believe the next work of Jose will be his top work.”

Tottenham fans are still hoping to see the best results of a Mourinho reign after a tough period of results for the Spurs boss pre-lockdown.

If Campos arrives, and he and Mourinho can find a definitive direction for the club, then this may very well be one of Mourinho’s best ever endeavours.
