TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed in an exclusive that Lucas Torreira is to complete a move to Atletico Madrid either on Thursday or Friday, with the Uruguayan’s future at Arsenal seemingly over as the Gunners look to sign a midfielder.
Torreira, 24, joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018 after impressing at the World Cup – and has since clocked up an impressive 89 appearances in all competitions for the north London side. However, that looks set to be over.
The pocket-sized terrier has been linked on numerous occasions with a return to Serie A and to join Torino, but the Italians have been unable to thrash out a deal for Torreira – who has three years left on his £75,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).
Now, the latest report claims that Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid are set to complete the signing of Torreira and an announcement will be made either on Thursday – or Friday. Only the finer details in negotiations remain to be sorted.
TBR’s view – Torreira’s loss only makes sense with arrivals
Arsenal have been linked repeatedly with Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey and a deal for Torreira to join Simeone’s side may grease the wheels – both with Atletico and in terms of finances – for a move to sign the Ghanaian.
Houssem Aouar also remains a reported target for the Gunners, with many outlets claiming the north Londoners are locked in talks with Lyon over a move. Other central midfielders have been linked, but Torreira’s exit surely helps Arsenal’s hunt.
