Liverpool defender is a transfer target for AC Milan.

The defender is wanted by the Rossoneri, who could be losing Alessio Romagnoli this summer. Cristian Zapata has already departed, and Mattia Caldara has a long-term injury.

The Reds star played a reduced role last term for the club after coming back from the World Cup injured.

The form of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk meant he was used as a deputy, and when the Englishman broke his leg in November, Jurgen Klopp turned to Joel Matip.

Speculation has been rife about the Croatian’s future, and it was reported recently that an intermediary was in Milan for talks about a possible transfer.

But Calciomercato have claimed that a transfer is currently in doubt.

They state Lovren currently earns £5.2m per season (£100,000-a-week) at Anfield, which is apparently not feasible for Milan who would only be able to pay that rate for two years.

TBR’s view

It would seem that in order for Lovren to join Milan this summer, he may have to drop his wage demands.

With the player not yet 30, that is extremely unlikely, as it is common practice for players to earn the best money of their careers around that age.

The £20 million signing from Southampton (BBC Sport) has served the club well down the years but he’s also made a string of high profile errors.

He is a solid defender, but his tendency to make mistakes should force Liverpool to try and move him on this summer.
