Report: Ljungberg gives teenage Arsenal pair Omole and Olayinka first-team training chance

Tobi Omole was sent off against Northampton Town this season.

Arsenal interim manager Freddie Ljungberg is reportedly running the rule over two talented Arsenal teens.

According to All Nigeria Soccer, Tobi Omole and James Olayinka have been given the opportunity to impress. Both have been included in first-team training this week as Ljungberg assesses his whole squad.

Ljungberg is expected to give youth a chance during his tenure as caretaker manager of Arsenal. There are a number of talented youngsters on Arsenal’s books and Omole and Olayinka will be hoping for a breakthrough soon.

Omole plays at left-back but he can also operate in central defence. The 19-year-old, who qualifies for England and Nigeria, was sent off in an EFL Trophy game for Arsenal U21s against Northampton Town back in August.

Olayinka is a versatile player but his best position is central midfield. Like Omole, he qualifies to play for England or Nigeria. The 19-year-old had better luck than Omole in the game against Northampton as he got himself on the scoresheet.

TBR’s view

Omole and Olayinka are probably still quite far off promotion to the first-team for matches. But they will be desperate to impress Ljungberg and the other senior Gunners.

Olayinka will hope to replicate Joe Willock’s blueprint to get into the midfield. Meanwhile, Omole will battle with Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac for the left-back berth.
