Report: Liverpool’s players have been left very impressed by 22-year-old in pre-season training

Ibrahima Konate has made a big impression in Liverpool training already, the Athletic report.

Good start

Konate is Liverpool’s only signing of the summer so far, and the central defender has been included in the group which has gone to Austria.

Liverpool do not have a full squad available to them yet, but Jurgen Klopp has still managed to take over 30 players on the training camp.

And Liverpool’s players and staff are all said to have been impressed by Konate’s showings.

The pressure is on for Konate to catch the eye if he to break into Liverpool’s team, too.

The Reds have seen Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk return to training after injuries in recent weeks.

Fierce competition

That means that competition for places at the back is set to be fierce.

Van Dijk will surely be a guaranteed starter when he gets back to full fitness, but it is not yet clear who Klopp intends to start alongside him.

If it is to be Konate then it will be a big show of confidence, as Gomez and Van Dijk were one of the most solid pairings in the Premier League when partnered together as Liverpool won the league in 2019/20.
