Report: Liverpool will pursue Inter Milan star on a free, after window ends
Inter Live claim Liverpool will pursue a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic on a free transfer, when the current window ends.
Brozovic, 28, is in the final 12 months of his contract at Inter Milan. The Nerrazzuri want to keep him, but Liverpool are monitoring the situation.
The report states that Juventus are also interested – but that there will be no movement from any of the three clubs until after the current window ends.
Inter are confident of striking a deal worth £82,500 a week. However, Liverpool are ready to offer more if they can get him on a free.
Of course, clubs are able to sign players – not from the same country – from January 1, when they enter the last six months of their deal.
Brozovic to Liverpool: Is he what Jurgen Klopp needs?
So, Liverpool can get Brozovic on a pre-contract arrangment from January 1 – if he does not renew his Inter contract before that point.
Such a move would see Liverpool finally get their man in the summer of 2022. The report states that Liverpool want to get him for ‘zero’.
The report says Liverpool are willing to pay Brozovic £115,000 a week – £32,500 more than Inter. But is he what they need?
Well, Liverpool do need midfielders. They have lost Xherdan Shaqiri and Gini Wijnaldum. They need a hard-working player in the engine room.
Brozovic is that player, but for fans – he might be a bit underwhelming. He saves cash and is a good player but he will be 29 by the time he joins.
A good signing, but Liverpool need better.
