Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are all said to be on alert as apparent transfer target Diego Llorente is catching the eye of AS Monaco.
According to a report from Diario AS, the Real Sociedad star’s impressive form this season at the Anoeta has several teams keeping tabs on his progression.
Monaco are now leading that chase. Former Spanish international boss Robert Moreno used Llorente with regularity for La Roja and now wants to bring the 26-year-old to Ligue 1.
However, the three English teams are also said to remain keen. AS reports, citing an interview with the player in which he admits he may consider his future once the season has finally reached its conclusion, that Liverpool, Tottenham, West Ham, and Championship side Fulham have all watched him playing for Real Sociedad.
“When all this is over, I will see what sporting and personal situation I am in.”
Liverpool could arguably need to strengthen at the back if Dejan Lovren leaves whilst Tottenham will want a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, whose contract expires this summer. West Ham need to improve their team over the pitch in order to avoid more relegation battles going forward whilst Fulham would presumably move for Llorente should they win promotion to the Premier League.
However, Llorente would not come cheap. The report claims he has a €50 million (£44.25m) release clause and that Real Sociedad plan to stick to it.
So Llorente may indeed be on a lot of English teams shortlists for the summer. However, given that price-tag and Monaco’s clear advantage in the pursuit of his signature, Liverpool, Tottenham, West Ham, and Fulham are all facing an uphill battle.
