Liverpool have reportedly registered their interest in Toulouse defender Mathieu Goncalves.
According to a report from L’Equipe, Reds officials have identified the 18-year-old left-back as possible backup for Andy Robertson.
Currently, the Scotland international is the only left-sided defender at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp sometimes turning to James Milner to deputise in his absence.

Goncalves has been with Toulouse since 2015, and made his first-team debut for the club earlier this season against Paris Saint-Germain on August 25.
Interestingly, Goncalves is yet to feature in his favoured position in Ligue 1 so far, operating as a centre-half on four occasions – he has made just one Coupe de la Ligue appearance at left-back.
The report claims Liverpool face competition from Italian champions Juventus, who are currently leading the race.
TBR’s view – Natural Robertson backup needed
Liverpool are right to target a younger left-back to cover for Robertson, who plays the vast majority of games for the Reds.

Milner can always do a job, but realistically the club do need to invest in a natural left-footer.
That said Goncalves – a France U18 international – has only just come onto the scene, and it’s stated Reds officials are keen to see how he fares over a full season, so perhaps a move next month is not too likely.
