Liverpool are looking to beat a host of European clubs – including Arsenal – to the signature of young Canadian star, Jahkeel Marshall-Rutty, according to reports.
The Liverpool Echo reports how the Reds have invited Marshall-Rutty for a trial with the club, with a view to signing him ahead of the rest. Other teams such as Bayern Munich and Juventus are credited with holding an interest in the teenager as well.

However, the Reds could hold an ace up their sleeve. The Mail reports how Liverpool have close ties with Marshall-Rutty’s current club, Toronto. They sent young left-back Tony Gallagher there on loan before, thus completing a tie with the Canadian outfit.
Marshall-Rutty is the latest Canadian to emerge in recent years. Indeed, he has been compared to fellow countryman and Bayern star, Alphonso Davies. Other players, such as Lille’s Jonathan David, have also done well in Europe of late.
Should Liverpool convince Marshall-Rutty, they’ll not be able to sign him until he is 18 due to current transfer regulations.
TBR’s View: Liverpool Tapping Into New Markets For Marshall-Rutty
And you’d have to say it’s a smart decision to do so. Those players mentioned to come from Canada recently look the real deal, so it’s no wonder Marshall-Rutty is in demand.
Building for the future is just as important and spending on big name players for clubs like Liverpool. They’ve already got a fine talent pool building at Anfield. Adding Marshall-Rutty, it seems, would only increase that pool.
Of course, a host of clubs are keen. But Jurgen Klopp and his team might well fancy their chances here.
