Liverpool are one of several English clubs keeping tabs on Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla, according to TuttoNapoli. The centre-back is having a tremendous campaign in Serie A.
An Albanian international Kumbulla has made 17 appearances in the league this season and his performances are catching the eye of potential suitors.
Manchester United, Everton and Manchester City are all quoted as being interested in the player. Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, Napoli and Atalanta are also thought the be keen.
Leipzig offered £13 million for the defender’s services in January but the bid was rejected as Verona hold out for more money in the summer (Team Talk).
The ball-playing centre-back is reportedly worth £25 million, although that price tag is increasing with each brilliant performance he puts in.
Kumbulla has a contract with Verona until 2022 but given his meteoric rise to stardom, the club could be willing to offload him to get the very best price for the player.
Liverpool have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren currently at the club. Kumbulla’s arrival would almost certainly see one of those offloaded, with Lovren the favourite.
TBR View – Unknown quantity but future looks bright for Kumbulla
Although the Albanian’s name won’t ring too many bells with English football fans, it’s worth noting that neither did Joel Matip’s.
Liverpool supporters should trust Klopp and his team of recruitment people to nail another transfer.
They haven’t got too many wrong since arriving at the club and another gem might just be unearthed in Kumbulla.
He has been magnificent in Serie A this season and if Liverpool can beat their rivals to his signature, they could land themselves an exceptional talent.
