Report: Liverpool want Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio

Liverpool will be in the market for some new recruits during the summer and El Gol Digital claims that Marco Asensio is a man on the radar.

The Reds have relinquished their Premier League title with a whimper and they’ll aim to bounce back next season.

Asensio has been at Real Madrid since 2016 when he checked-in from Espanyol. He has made 179 appearances, scoring 34 goals and claiming 22 assists.

He has featured 34 times in Zinedine Zidane’s team during 2020/21, scoring four goals and registering two assists.

Asensio typically operates on one of the flanks, with the right side his predominant position, particularly this season.

The report claims that Liverpool view the Spaniard as a clone to Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian loosely linked with a departure during previous windows.

PSG are also thought to be keen on the man with 26 caps for the Spain national team and could rival Liverpool for his signature.

Asensio earns £115,000-a-week at the Santiago Bernabeu and there is lots to like about him potentially arriving at Anfield.

The squad depth at Anfield has shown them up this season and Jurgen Klopp must hope for new additions.

Asensio has won two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns during his time at Real Madrid and is a natural-born winner.

Calling him the heir to Salah’s throne might be a bit of a stretch but let’s not forget he was hardly setting Serie A alight when Liverpool signed him.

Asensio would be a significant improvement on some of the squad players in place at Anfield and Klopp would be wise to pounce.
