Report: Liverpool want player with 134 Premier League apps, he expects to move next summer
According to 90min, Liverpool are interested in signing West Ham captain Declan Rice, along with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, 90min believe Rice is 100% focused on the 2021/22 campaign with West Ham.
However, they add that the 22-year-old fully expects it to be his last season with the Hammers.
Even though his current terms expire in 2024, West Ham have considered handing Rice a new deal with increased wages to reflect his importance.
90min add that sources close to Liverpool have confirmed the Reds are interested, and hope to secure his services next summer.
Would Declan Rice be a good signing for Liverpool?
If Jürgen Klopp lined up with a defensive midfield pairing of Fabinho and Rice, it would be a scary prospect for opponents.
In our view, the West Ham No.41 would excel alongside the Brazilian at Anfield, just like he currently does next to Tomáš Souček in east London.
That midfield foundation could even see the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson get even better.
Rice and Fabinho would surely do most of the work defensively, allowing the trio to focus on getting forward more often.
At just 22, Rice has already amassed 134 Premier League appearances, and started every game as England reached the EURO 2020 final.
He would be an excellent addition to Klopp’s squad, and given his age, could easily boss Liverpool’s midfield for over a decade.
