According to Sport, Liverpool are interested in signing Augsburg defender Philipp Max. The left-back clearly sufficiently impressed in the Bundesliga last season to get himself on Jurgen Klopp’s radar.
Max is a key player for Augsburg. Last season, the 25-year-old made 30 league appearances for the German outfit. He also contributed an impressive tally of four goals and four assists.
The three-cap Germany international is every inch the modern full-back. He excels going forward and is a dynamic, positive and creative force in the final third. He would certainly fit in with the Reds’ style of play under Klopp.
The reigning European champions rely upon the expansive play of their full-backs to carve out goalscoring chances for their attackers. In this aspect of the Merseyside club’s play, Max would be an ideal fit.
However, forcing his way into Liverpool’s starting XI would not be a simple matter. Andrew Robertson currently has Liverpool’s left-back spot nailed down. The Scot has been sensational since his arrival at Anfield from Hull City in 2017. The 25-year-old has established himself as a key player and fan-favourite at Liverpool.
However, that doesn’t mean that Klopp shouldn’t be looking to push Robertson harder. Max would provide intense competition for his place in the team. Such a battle for supremacy could take both Max and Robertson’s games to new heights.
