Liverpool are interested in Ajax defender Perr Schuurs, with the Daily Mirror reporting that his recent Champions League display against the Reds caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp.

It has been a tough time for the Premier League champions. They are set to be without Virgil van Dijk for the long-term. And they have also lost the likes of Fabinho and Joel Matip to their own injuries.

It was Nat Phillips who played alongside Joe Gomez on Saturday. But it looks as though Klopp could look to strengthen in the market when the January window opens.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are monitoring Schuurs. It is claimed that his display in the Reds’ recent 1-0 win impressed Klopp.

And it is noted by the Mirror that the youngster was previously on trial on Merseyside when he was a 17-year-old.

The 20-year-old looks to be establishing himself as one of the most exciting prospects making the grade in Amsterdam.

His performance in the Reds’ Champions League victory last month prompted Rio Ferdinand to earmark Schuurs as one of the Ajax players to keep an eye on.

“The young centre-back Schuurs was very, very good,” he told BT Sport (21/10) in their press match coverage.

“He got rolled for the goal but I think a young 20-year-old playing against a Liverpool front line the way he did, I thought he was a good replacement for De Ligt.

“Not a direct replacement – he’s only been away for a year, but someone who can come in and take that mantle. Commanding.”

Judging by this latest report, Ferdinand is not the only one who was won over by Schuurs’s performance in that game.
