Liverpool will complete the £30.5m signing of RB Leipzig defender, Ibrahima Konate, in the coming days, according to journalist, Fabrizio Romano.

Romano took to Twitter last night to give the deal his now famous ‘here we go’, as the Reds look set to beat a host of teams to Konate.

The impressive defender has been one of the most in-demand players on the European market heading into this summer. The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have been keen, while Real Madrid have also watched Konate.

But it is Liverpool who have won the race. The Reds have agreed a five-year contract with Konate, with the fee expected to be around £30.5m, according to Romano’s update.

Konate should ensure Liverpool have ample cover in defence after the nightmare of this season. Indeed, Konate could well go straight in alongside Virgil van Dijk, such is his talent.

TBR View: Huge signing for Liverpool, Konate will be brilliant

This was the sort of news that Liverpool needed this week to get some fans on board. FSG have been hounded by Reds supporters all week, so splashing a bit of cash on one of Europe’s best talents is a smart move.

Konate will do more than just add depth to the Liverpool ranks. Ideally, he’ll slot straight in, which could mean Joe Gomez facing a huge fight to be a regular once he’s back from injury.

Nevertheless, this is a huge win for the Reds and deal that fans will very much welcome.
