Goal have claimed that Liverpool have tabled a five-year contract in a bid to keep Pedro Chirivella at Anfield this summer, but the midfielder is yet to sign a new deal – with Steven Gerrard waiting in the wings.

Chirivella, who turns 23 this week, enjoyed his most successful season since he joined Liverpool in 2015. Indeed, the Spanish midfielder managed seven senior outings, starring in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Everton.

Previously, Chirivella has been more than happy to remain as cover for the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. Liverpool have the option to extend the contract at least until the end of July in order for Chirivella to finish the season at Anfield.

But beyond that, Liverpool have tabled a five-year deal to keep Chirivella. That offer remains on the table with Chirivella considering whether he wants to remain a squad player at Anfield. Rangers are keen, as are Nantes.

TBR’s view – Should Liverpool keep him?

The report states that Jurgen Klopp has been impressed not only by the player’s performances this season, but also by the ex-Valencia star’s application in training. Certainly, he is of a very good standard to have as third or fourth choice.

If Liverpool do keep him, they have to give him more game time than the odd run out with the youngsters. Chirivella must be promised at least 15 games a season in all competitions, or look to leave with top-tier sides interested.
