Report: Liverpool player set to extend Anfield contract
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is set to commit his long-term future to the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, the two parties are at the final stages of negotiations over a new deal.
The Brazilian custodian has been at Anfield since 2018. He checked in from Roma and has helped the club win Premier League and Champions League titles.
Liverpool’s defence has been the bedrock of their success under Jurgen Klopp. For all their attacking intent, it would count for little had the defence not stood tall when called upon.
Alisson’s arrival, along with Virgil van Dijk’s presence, has made the Reds a real force in the Premier League after years with limited success.
The 28-year-old has made 130 appearances for Liverpool, keeping 59 clean sheets during his time between the posts.
Now, the £150,000-a-week star is set to extend his stay until 2026, with talks in the final stages.
Alisson arrived at Liverpool from Roma. There he made 64 appearances, keeping 26 clean sheets and helping them reach the semi-final of the Champions League.
The goalkeeper is currently enjoying a holiday after being part of the Brazil squad that lost in the final of the Copa America.
He has earned praise from his peers previously. At the end of the 2018/19 campaign, James Milner backed Alisson for the Player of the Year award, calling him ‘unbelievable’.
New Alisson contract is a wise decision by Liverpool
Although the goalkeeper does have his moments, it’s fair to say he’s firmly established as the club’s number one goalkeeper.
The 46-cap star clearly has an influence on the back four, with the defensive unit at ease when he operates between the posts.
Klopp has remained loyal to his players over the years and in handing Alisson a new deal he is highlighting such a trait once more.
The former Serie A star made 42 appearances in all competitions during 2020/21 as the Reds claimed a top-four finish.
Now, Alisson looks set to stay and that could mean success for Liverpool in the coming years.
